Highest paid NFL players

Determining who the highest paid players in the NFL are is actually quite difficult due to the way contracts and bonuses are structured to meet the NFL salary caps.  The 2009 Salary Cap will be $127 Million up from $116 Million in 2008.

Based on average salary the highest paid players during 2009 were:

  • Julius Peppers, Car $16.683M
  • Carson Palmer, Cin $16.166M
  • Eli Manning, NYG $15.285M
  • Nnamdi Asomugha, Oak $15.155
  • Ben Roethlisberger, Pit $14.664M

Julias Peppers signed a new six year deal in March 2010 worth $91.5 million.

Wildcard team to Superbowl winner

Since 1978 only seven teams have gone on from playing in the Wildcard round to win the Super Bowl, three of which occured in the past five years. Of the seven teams two were from the NFC and five were from the AFC.

The seven teams were:

  • Oakland Raiders (1980-81)
  • Washington Redskins (1982-83)
  • Denver Broncos (1997-98)
  • Baltimore Ravens (2000-01)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers (2005-06)
  • Indianapolis Colts (2006-07)
  • New York Giants (2007-08)
