Since 1978 only seven teams have gone on from playing in the Wildcard round to win the Super Bowl, three of which occured in the past five years. Of the seven teams two were from the NFC and five were from the AFC.
The seven teams were:
- Oakland Raiders (1980-81)
- Washington Redskins (1982-83)
- Denver Broncos (1997-98)
- Baltimore Ravens (2000-01)
- Pittsburgh Steelers (2005-06)
- Indianapolis Colts (2006-07)
- New York Giants (2007-08)
